What is it?
Holotropic Breathwork (from Greek holos, wholeness, and threpein, move towards) is a technique created in 1976 by the czech psychiatrist Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina that combines accelerated breathing, evocative music, a particular method of focused bodywork, artistic expression and group dynamics.
The interaction of these elements in an structured setting, and the presence of trained professionals, facilitates the access a Non Ordinary State of Consciousness, similar to those that happen during practices such as meditation, shamanic experiences and rituals from different cultures, among others.
These states have a great therapeutic, evolutive, learning and consciousness expanding potential.
All this makes Holotropic Breathwork a safe and effective method to access to Non Ordinary States of Consciousness. It is rooted in the theoretical principles of Transpersonal Psychology and incorporates the modern findings of consciousness research, while including elements from ancestral traditions.
